Week 1


Devlog: Week 1 - First Person Horror on Unreal Engine

  • Created the project using the First Person Template with Blueprints.
  • Set up player controls: WASD movement, mouse look, sprinting, and crouching.
  • Implemented player movement: walking, sprinting, and a stamina system.
  • Developed a system for picking up items (left mouse button).
  • Created a magical crystal (lantern) with toggleable light using the F key.
  • Prototyped an inventory system supporting 1-2 slots.
  • Temporarily imported a medieval-themed asset pack from Fab (https://www.fab.com/listings/c13bd0dc-ac4d-4595-b284-f81386b2e6ef).
  • Optimized asset textures using ImageResizUEr.
  • Configured dynamic lighting: candles, dynamic shadows, and magical light.
  • Added sound effects: ambient, footsteps, and environmental creaks.

These steps established a working prototype with core mechanics, interactivity, and a horror atmosphere, ready for further development.
